RFT Executive Board Meeting - 12/05/05

RFT President Rosemary Thurston called the meeting to order on 12/05/05 at 3:53 PM in the RTC Library's McClendon Conference Room (C-203).

Due to a lack of a quorum present, there was no official business conducted.

VP of Political, Gary Neill, and AFT Washington representative, Merrilee Miron, reported on COPE (Committee on Political Education).

It was proposed to conduct a general membership breakfast meeting on Friday, December 16, 2005 in the cafeteria.  Rosemary will conduct an email vote of the Executive Board to get approval.

The contract for July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2008 was signed in September.  Membership voted to approve the intent of the contract changes but had not yet had an opportunity to vote on the final contract language.

There was discussion about the need to change the definition of active membership regarding part-time faculty.  Rosemary will conduct an email vote of the Executive Board to get approval to change the definition.  If approved by the Executive Board, it will go for approval by the general membership at their next meeting.

There was discussion about the need to increase the dues of the part-time faculty since the union was paying out more in dues for part-time faculty than it was taking in.  Rosemary will conduct an email vote of the Executive Board to get approval to change the dues.  If approved by the Executive Board, it will go for approval by the general membership at their next meeting.

Merrilee stated that a Hudson Audit Report needed to be sent out to all members on an annual basis.

There was discussion about the benefits of occupational liability insurance available through AFT.  No one seemed to know if RFT members were already covered.  Rosemary will conduct an email vote of the Executive Board to get approval to purchase the insurance.  If RFT isn't covered and if it is approved by the Executive Board, it will go for approval by the general membership at their next meeting.

There was a suggestion to donate $200 to AFT's Disaster Relief Fund for AFT members who were victims of Hurricane Katrina.  Rosemary will conduct an email vote of the Executive Board to get approval.  If approved by the Executive Board, it will go for approval by the general membership at their next meeting.

AFT Washington will be holding a Union Leadership Institute on Friday and Saturday, March 3 -4 at the SeaTac DoubleTree Hotel at the SeaTac Airport.  The purpose is to develop labor leadership skills.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:53 PM.

The Executive Board's next meeting will be Monday, 01/09/06 at 4:00 PM in the RTC Library's McClendon Conference Room (C-203).  All RFT members are welcome to attend.
