RFT Executive Board Meeting Minutes
September 19, 2024
7:00 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
Present: Cheryl Stover, Elisa Westcrook, Glenda Hanson, Michele Lesmeister, Sheila May-Farley, AJ Serba
Absent: Rick Geist and Donna Maher
It was note that Cheryl (VP) will be sitting during Donna’s leave. We will all support her as needed.
There was some discussion about the Adjunct Program Coordinator positions across several programs on campus. Some faculty are noting that they are not getting a full time contract. Michele met with Lesley Hogan about the faculty thinking they are full time program instructors and why they were not given an annual contract. Actually, the administration issued this contract to all short term program faculty uniformly.
Glenda (Adjunct) noted that she had a reduced credit load so that her teaching credits fit into the workload guidelines. She has 18 credits in her courses taught across campus. There should be a process for reducing credits of established courses.
AJ (Rights and Responsibilities) was welcomed and updated Rights and Responsibilities issues that are currently being facilitated. The Culinary grievance was discussed. This past summer XXX was on FMLA, and the dean continued to email him. The faculty are in a 5-day waiting period for a response to their grievance. They want to work without harassment from their dean. It was noted that an administrative assistant was asked to go through their emails to locate anything that the dean could use against the instructors; the assistant refused.
The accusation of racism with XXXX was discussed. Since all parties are back on campus, the faculty member has met with the investigator and a ruling should be provided within a week.
Glenda (Adjunct) feels that we need to get a handle on how the new contract impacts adjuncts. She has updated the webpage. She and Elizabeth are updating the bylaws and constitution for RFT.
A High Demand dollars conversation followed. The money is supposed to go only to credentialed faculty in the designated programs.
Elisa (Membership)noted that we have three new RFT members. She has updated the membership list and will send it to Glenda and AJ. She is going to ask Ray to come to campus for a membership drive and
Sheila, (Political) There will be some upcoming legislation we need to support.
Michele (Communications) asked if the newsletter should go out to all campus. Yes, was the decision. She is working on topics for the October newsletter.
The next RFT Exec. Board meeting will be Oct. 24, 2024.
